The livestock department marks the 6th “International Health Day”

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Production of the Government of India is celebrating the International Day of One Health on November 3, 2021. Events for the occasion were organized by hosting a stakeholder forum on the topic of ‘Industry and one health ”. The celebration of the same is part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative. The Department, through the forum, invited all stakeholders to adopt the One Health approach and participate in research and innovation to successfully implement the One Health framework.

The deliberations regarding the potential of the industry through active involvement in the implementation of One Health were presented with opening remarks from Atul Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Livestock and Dairy Production, GoI and Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) and CEO, Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR). Panelists for the forum included representatives from industry, Confederation of Indian Industry, World Bank, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, senior officials from the Department of Livestock and Dairy Production, Indian government and other experts.

To underscore the need for a One Health approach, the Livestock and Dairy Department celebrated the sixth International One Health Day on Wednesday. This event aimed to showcase the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary commitments as well as the multisectoral collaboration crucial for the implementation of the One Health concept. Discussion for the same revolved around issues such as policy framework, regulation, financial, human, social, natural and physical capital, global learnings and best practices, and other relevant issues.

Department of Livestock and Dairy Production Secretary Atul Chaturvedi said: “Effective stakeholder engagement is essential for the successful use of the One Health approach to address global health challenges. , guarantee food security and meet the challenge of food security. The department is committed to working. – in complementary mode in order to share resources and expertise across fields – with all the actors who will contribute to the promotion of a single health in the country ”

ICAR Secretary Trilochan Mohapatra reiterated the commitment of the Indian Agricultural Research Council to help address emerging challenges in the field of One Health through collaboration and partnership with all stakeholders. He said: “Historically, ICAR has not only developed technologies such as animal vaccines, but has also ensured reach at the local level through active partnerships with companies. We are looking for active collaboration with industry to come forward and unite our efforts to bring solutions to farmers.
