NMDC organizes Plantation at Landscape Garden and adopts two tigers as part of Swachhta 2.0

Hyderabad, October 2022: India’s eco-friendly miner and the country’s largest iron ore producer, NMDC held a plantation at Landscape Garden and adopted two tigers – a Royal Bengal Tiger and a White Tiger on October 27, 2022 at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad.

NMDC has always been a leader in environmental conservation and sustainable development. As part of Swachhta 2.0, the company has launched various conservation efforts to help protect the country’s flora and fauna. Since the start of the Swachhta campaign on October 2, 2022, the NMDC has carried out numerous cleanliness, planting, Prabhat Pheri, Swachhta Run and awareness campaigns on the importance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Plantation Drive at the zoo is the brainchild of the Environment Division of the NMDC’s Resource Planning Department and is a step towards strengthening biodiversity conservation efforts.

The Plantation and Tiger Adoption Campaign was conducted in the presence of Chief Guest Shri Sumit Deb, CMD, NMDC; Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance); Shri S. Rajashekar (DCF) Conservator, Nehru Zoological Park and NMDC Officials, Nehru Zoological Park and Forest Department, Telangana Government.

Shri Amitava Mukherjee said: “A sustainable future requires concerted efforts to combat desertification and manage forests while preventing biodiversity loss. The NMDC believes that our actions today will determine the future of the nation and is honored to have been part of the planting and adoption initiatives at Nehru Zoological Park.

Speaking on occasion, Shri Sumit Deb said, “NMDC has always been a responsible miner and is committed to protecting endangered flora and fauna. As Miners to the Nation, NMDC holds an important responsibility in safeguarding the interests of the people and the sustainability of the planet.

The magnificent Royal Bengal Tiger is the national animal of our country and the white tiger is a rare species. It is imperative to note how important biodiversity is for the sustainability of people and the planet. As part of our efforts to save the planet through Swachhta 2.0, we hope to play our part in conserving biodiversity through the adoption of these two tigers.

The adoption and planting campaign was followed by a visit to the zoo.
