NIAS Develops Livestock Quality Assurance Assessor Program

The Nigerian Institute of Animal Science has developed the first livestock quality assurance assessors program under the Nigerian Competency Qualification Framework.

The Agency also trained 26 livestock expert assessors for the development of mid-level manpower for the increase of national productivity in the livestock sub-sector and the integration of different value chains .

NIAS Registrar, Prof. Eaustace Iyayi, speaking to the Abuja-trained assessors, recently said that the program will also ensure economic and social inclusion of the rural poor and vulnerable groups through increased livestock productivity and to market access.

He explained that the Institute was confident that the training would also ensure a reduction in the country’s import bills.

Some evaluators participating in the training, Mrs. Saidat Sonaiki and Mr. Toriola Ajibade spoke about their experience and the importance of the training which they believed would enhance food security and increase animal production.

The Institute’s Accreditation and Program Manager, Mr. Alike Peter, pointed out that the trained assessors would be qualified to be internal and external auditors.
