The Public Works Department has developed plans to rehabilitate and extend the life of the culvert under Plantation Parkway, just north of the Fairfax Boulevard intersection. This culvert has two large diameter pipes that carry water from the North Fork of Accotink Creek under the roadway.

This project will repair concrete cracking and deterioration of the wing walls and headwalls, replace the hardware securing the culvert pipe sections, and apply a coating to the interior of the culvert pipes. A plunge pool will also be constructed at the downstream end of the culvert to create a larger area for heavy flow energy dissipation.

Triangle Contracting will begin work on or around Monday, July 25.

This project will require the closure of on-street parking on Plantation Parkway at Accotink Creek for approximately six months, to provide space for crews to access the project area as well as store materials and equipment. Sidewalk closures in this area will also be required; however, the sidewalk on one side of Plantation Parkway will remain open to pedestrians.

This project is funded by the Stormwater Utility, which supports drainage infrastructure projects like this, as well as environmental projects related to stormwater, regulatory compliance, and drainage improvements.
