Livestock and veterinary department distributed 20 cows to Chongrang block as part of livestock insurance

Recently, no less than 20 dairy cows were distributed to beneficiaries of Chongrang block in Yaksum Tashiding constituency.

Organized as part of the project “Distribution of Dairy Cows to Supplement Farmers’ Income under the NEC Fund 2020-21”, the event was jointly organized by the District Collector’s Office, West (DC) and the Department animal husbandry and veterinary services.

Dr NM Cintury, additional director of the AH&VS department, informed about the different characteristics of this project, intended exclusively for the Chongrang block within the framework of the Aspirational district program.

He urged beneficiaries to take good care of the cows and adopt scientific breeding methods thereby increasing milk production and making the most of the milk incentive provided by the government.

In addition, the cows will be covered by livestock insurance for a period of three years.

Beneficiaries will get an incentive of Rs 3600 / – to procure vitamins and mineral supplements will be credited to beneficiary accounts through direct benefit transfer (DBT).

He also explained the main features of the “Pigsty Incentive Program” in which a comprehensive survey of qualifying pig farmers has already started across the state.

It will soon be officially launched by the Honorable Chief Minister of Sikkim.

The event also covered topics such as sanitation and housing, disease prevention and control, vaccination, insurance, common local diseases in livestock and their remedial measures, sample survey integrated, the national animal disease control program (NADCP), etc.
