A 40-year-old worker was mauled to death by a tiger inside a coffee estate in Rudraguppe within the boundaries of Bittangala gram panchayat in the district on Monday.

Ganesh, the deceased, and another worker were busy harvesting black pepper at the plantation owned by Ayyappa when the incident occurred.

The tiger attacked Ganesh while he was picking up the chilli that had fallen to the ground. The other worker was on a tree for harvesting and therefore survived the attack. The tiger left after the attack, eyewitnesses said.

The incident sparked a flash protest from farmers. They alleged that the Forest Department had failed to control the threat of wildlife in the area.
