Green Plains Cattle Company Changes Name to Cobalt Cattle Company | Livestock

On November 5, Green Plains Cattle Company LLC announced its new name, Cobalt Cattle Company LLC, taking the final step to become a stand-alone business focused solely on feeding and raising livestock.

“This is an exciting new chapter for our company and our team,” said Joel Jarnagin, President and CEO of Cobalt Cattle. “Our name really says it all. Cobalt is an element that when combined with other elements creates a strong metal, just like our team. We have some of the best cattle feeders in the industry, and they come from different backgrounds and historical companies to form an even stronger team focused on caring for others and our cattle.

Cobalt Cattle is committed to producing beef using the most ethical, sustainable and responsible practices, while providing a safe, healthy and rewarding work environment. Cobalt Cattle is dedicated to the well-being of its livestock, the growth of its employees and the health of its communities because they are all interconnected.

“Here we raise a lot more than cattle. We are committed to higher standards, in the way we care and handle our livestock to the teams we work with and care for, ”said Jarnagin. “Our communities are just as important to us. Last year, during the pandemic, we donated over 23 tonnes of beef to local families at our seven sites. We are stronger together, so we take care of each other.

Cobalt Cattle is the fourth largest cattle feeder company in the United States, with more than 250 employees at seven sites. Headquartered in Garden City, Kansas, the company was founded in 2014, growing over the past seven years with the acquisition of new feedlots in Colorado, Kansas and Texas. Its current locations include: Eckley, Colorado; Kismet, Kansas; Leoti, Kansas; Sublette, Kansas; Hereford, Texas; Tulia, Texas; and Cimarron Grain in Kismet, Kansas. Cobalt Cattle was previously a subsidiary of Green Plains Inc., a biorefinery company based in Omaha, Nebraska.

“Although we all started in traditional feedlots as members of different teams in the past, we have all come together to form a close connection and a unified Cobalt Cattle team,” says Heath Schulte, Regional Director of feedlot for Hereford and Tulia, Texas, cobalt cattle feedlots. “We are all bound by a common goal and we support each other when we care for and feed livestock with an emphasis on animal health, husbandry and quality assurance. “
