KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rahul Pandey today launched a fruit tree planting campaign organized by the Department of Horticulture in the border village of Kunthal in Hiranagar.

Citrus planting is underway on an area of ​​40 kanals of land in Kunthal village under the CAPEX HD program of the horticulture department in areas with suitable agroclimatic conditions.

The Deputy Commissioner also handed over three tractors, two tillers and an MP plow under the Horticulture Department’s Special Mechanization SMAM and Capex program.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Kathua Rahul Pandey called on farmers in border areas to come forward and take advantage of programs in agriculture, horticulture, livestock, fisheries, poultry and related sectors to adopt composite farming to improve their incomes. He said that the government has devised several programs in agriculture and related sectors where tractors, tillers and other agricultural implements, tools are given to farmers at heavily subsidized rates to facilitate the farming process. through technological intervention.

While giving details of the ongoing planting campaign being carried out by the horticulture department, horticulture director Kathua Sushil Kumar Angurana said the department has been influencing farmers to adopt horticulture at the commercial scale as there is huge potential for this in the border areas of Kathua District. “More than 120 hectares of landmass have been placed under the planting of mangoes, lychees and citrus fruits in the district,” the CHO added.
