Animal Husbandry Director Dr Shubhra Sharma reviews department performance

Jammu Animal Husbandry Director, Dr Shubhra Sharma chaired a meeting of Jammu District Veterinary Assistant Surgeons here today at Talab Tillo Animal Husbandry Director Conference Hall, and spent review their performance.

Initially, the President commended the efforts made by the officers to control Lumpy Skin Disease in the district and highlighted the completion of vaccination of all susceptible cattle population left out by the 25th of this month.

The director had a detailed review of the various flagship programs of the department viz. Integrated dairy development program, integrated poultry development program, national artificial insemination program, national animal disease control program for foot-and-mouth disease and brucellosis, and livestock insurance under the national mission of the breeding.

While discussing the progress made under the National Artificial Insemination Program, the President stressed the importance of artificial insemination in ensuring the improvement of local cattle and buffalo breeds.

She further ordered to significantly improve the coverage of the program, especially the recently introduced sex-sorted semen aiming to reach over 90% of female births. Given the discrepancy between the physical artificial inseminations performed and the data uploaded to the INAPH portal, the president asked the officers concerned to clear the wait on this account and upload the remaining data as soon as possible.

Deliberating on the status of progress under the livestock insurance component of the National Livestock Mission in the District, the Chairman stressed that efforts should be made to cover the maximum cattle population under his responsibility in a limited time.

The meeting was attended by CEO of Livestock Development Board Jammu, Dy. Director (AH) Jammu, Dy. Poultry Manager, Jammu Livestock Manager, Publicity and Extension Officer, Akhnoor/Jammu/RS Pura Livestock Development Officers, Officers of the Technical Section and Publicity Wing of the Directorate in more than all veterinary assistant surgeons in Jammu district.
